Full Historic Restoration: Bickgut

We consider the annex and the main building—including the later addition of the tower—as an ensemble. To bring the annex, which has not been renovated in whilestylistically closer to the main buildinga number of elements can be modified. These include the color of the façade, the plaster texturethe geometry and color of the embrasures, the window colorsthe base, etc. Apart from obvious aspects like the color scheme, the treatment of the window embrasures is a central element. The renovation project draws on this theme by deliberately choosing embrasure sizes and colors that match the main building. The substance of the existing openings remains intact; new casings are simply added with a new layer of plaster. In this way, older layers can be uncovered again at a later point if needed. The only reinterpretation of the embrasure theme concerns their top edge, where slightly raised, straight lines replace the segmental arches. This choice serves to align the look with the existing smallorthogonal punch windows on the Annex’s east façade, which are also redesignedOther than that, the renovation follows the existing structure and materials: the plaster texture and finish are the same, and the beavertail tiles are reused for the roof.
