Historic Restoration, Hottingen

This house in Hottingen, built in 1909had undergone several remodels and changes over the years. The recent restoration reversed the previous division into two separate apartments and simultaneously optimized the building technology. While the house featured an intact exterior, the aim was to gently renovate the interior for the intended residential use. In principle, we consider it both sensible and desirable from a design perspective to include as much of the surviving original substance as possible in renovation projects. Original wood floors and stucco ceilings are historically valuable and have compelling atmospheric qualities. Though the existing room structure had been altered in some areas, it was possible to gently correct it back and reinterpret it in some places. The goal was to find a coherent solution that remains close to the original state and creates a high-quality atmosphere for the new residents.
