Restaurant Frohberg, Stäfa

On the Wall

The typical image of Lake Zurich-style houses with their gable façades facing the lake inspired the silhouette of the new Restaurant Frohberg building. This gable façade reaches down to the vineyard, where it plays an ambiguous role as a landscape-wall and façade, a volumetric interlocking structure in the slope. This also creates an additional connection between the basement and the exterior and helps to structure the outdoor spaces. The building stands on the wall, and it is the wall. The east side of the restaurant contains the centrally positioned kitchen with building services as well as thedining room. Situated at a right angle is another building part, which houses a voluminous, tent-like banquet hall that incorporates the roof into the spatial experience. In volumetric terms, the structure consists of two gable roof volumes with strong gable walls and structurally open longitudinal walls with supports. In joining with the central entrance, they combine into a harmonious whole. The restaurant offers 118 outdoor seats and 126 indoor seats, including 64 in thebanquet hall, which features an incomparable view.
