The Espenhof Süd housing estate, built 1954–55, comprises 53 apartments and is a protected building complex. The historic restoration aims to uncover the surviving original substance from the 1950s, gently restore it, and thus recreate the original spatial experience. The bathrooms—originally built with toilets only and remodeled with toilets, sinks, and showers in 1982—are left in place wherever possible and rebuilt based on optimized floor plans. Likewise, the kitchens are placed back in their original locations where possible. The choice of materials, surfaces, and carpentry detailing brings back the old splendor.
