The attic extensions are based on the existing volumetric structures from the 1930s. The new dormers at the top of Stauffacherstrasse 178/180 tie in with the existing oriels to create distinctive corner risalits on the street side. On the courtyard side, the new volume also builds on an existing central risalit, and the new roof extensions interlock with the hipped roof of the building’s symmetrical volumetric structure. The same approach applies to the building at Hermann-Greulich-Strasse 60: wall dormers are used to weave the roof together into a new whole. In the spirit of modernism, the new attic apartments feature individual rooftop terraces, accessible via private atrium-like openings. The layout on the top floor features three relatively small apartments of about 40–50 m2. The building on Hermann-Greulich-Strasse has two apartments per floor, and for noise reasons, there are only two apartments in the new attic, too. These three-bedroom apartments are 80 m2 in size. Both have an inner courtyard, which provides noise-free ventilation as well as access to the intricately structured roof terrace; this courtyard functions as the actual center of the apartment that organizes the rooms.
